To me update means read all the content of the file and update the files of the database Taglist entry. Normally I should use the menu File>add a file to library or update the entries. This software is then changing the BPM of the file, if present, into the correct on or is filling it up. I'm using Beatunes to analys all my Songs to find the BPM per song. Perhaps it is available but I don't see it. It's a long time I start using Mediamonkey, but I'm now missing one thing.
